TAEKWONDO
Taekwondo (태권도 in Korean) is a dynamic martial art focused on speed and agility, and quite well known for favouring kicking techniques.
Practicing taekwondo comes with a wealth of benefits – training in different spatial settings and at varying intesities allows the athlete to improve their strength, endurance, balance, reflexes, mobility, coordination, and self-awareness. Once you know your body, you can use it more efficiently, as well as enjoying an higher self-esteem, coming to trust yourself and your skills.
Martial Spirit
Our Association favours a rather martial style of training, as it helps students learning about roles and duties, understanding the need to respect rules and their teammates, and developing a sense of belonging to a group. As they are asked to face different challenges, the athlete understands how to rely on their teacher, and how to support their peers, in order to achieve goals and results.
The martial practice of taekwondo is a constant pursuit of perfection. This requires attention, focus, self-awareness, humility, dedication, and perseverance. As an athlete lets these tenets shape their practice, they come to make them part of who they are and how they face life – becoming curious, driven, and resolute individuals ready to tackle and overcome any challenge.
Kukkiwon Style
At ASD Hyeonmu, we practice taekwondo kukkiwon, which sparring style (겨루기 or kyeorugi) is widely known for being an olympic specialty. Despite this, as the school has a more traditional approach to teaching, all athletes are required to practice all aspects of the discipline, including patterns (품새 or pumsae) and self-defense, breaking, and jumping techniques.
All belts exams, from white to black, are conducted following the complete martial program specified by our Federation.
