The Association
ASD Hyeonmu is a cultural and sport association focused on martial arts, and open to anyone wishing to approach sports for the first time or looking to further their athletic experience.
The Association was built around the tents of teamwork and cooperation, and hopes to become a place where people of any age and from any background can meet, enrich each other, and grow together.
ASD Hyeonmu, just as its founding member, is rather young – so it is always open to ideas for developing new educational paths and training courses, and welcomes specialists from different realities looking for a partnership of any kind. In particular, the Association looks forward to take part, as a team, in events, workshops, and competitions.
The Name
Hyeonmu (“현무” in Korean), aka the Black Turtle of the North or the Black Warrior, is one of the four ancient gods protecting the cardinal points in Eastern and South-Eastern cultures.
It is associated with longevity, resilience, winter, and family unity.
In Chinese, it shares its name with the powerful Xuanwu (“玄武”), a taoist god protecting the North, praticularly sacred to martial artists.
Thanks to its qualities – perseverance, steadfastness, and, at the same time, indomitable spirit – the Black Turtle is the perfect personification of ASD Hyeonmu’s driving tenets, as the Association hopes to inspire a healthy approach to challenges, whether faced in sports or in life.
